ConferenceXP (www.conferencexp.net) is an initiative of Microsoft Research. Its goal is to combine wireless classrooms, collaboration, and distance learning into a compelling, rich experience by integrating emerging and enabling technologies, such as high-bandwidth networks, wireless devices, Tablet PCs, and the advanced features in Microsoft® Windows® XP. In addition, the ConferenceXP research platform enables researchers and developers to create distributed applications that take advantage of ConferenceXP technology as well as Tablet PCs and wireless networks. It allows for the development of collaborative tools and applications without having to build them from the ground up. By partnering with research organizations and universities, the ConferenceXP project combines the academic community-s expertise in the learning sciences with Microsoft-s expertise in technology.
This interactive presentation will include an overview of ConferenceXP with hands-on activities as we discuss the two main engagement models - deployment and development - followed by a discussion of future directions.
Jason Van Eaton has been with the ConferenceXP development team for nearly 3 years, and has been at Microsoft for 9+. He started as the tester on the ConferenceXP team, and then changed roles to become the senior developer. Prior to that, he was a tester on Microsoft Search and in the Games group.
